Higher order thinking:

Questions to ask while reading:

·       Ask your student:  "How did you draw a conclusion about whom or what the story was about?" Students should respond that they read the text and looked for clues in the story. They then thought about what they already knew about those clues and how they might help you to decide who or what the story was about.

·         Ask your student: who are the characters? What is the setting? What is the main idea of the story? Have students explain how they know the ‘setting’. In this case the students will explain that all the picture words are relating to a beach, water, or pirate theme. To determine the main idea, ask the students what the whole story is about. Another helpful tip would be to ask them what another title for the story would be.
