Students Improve Their Questions

It is essential that students understand how to ask questions that will allow them to receive the information that they need. These questions should be open-ended, as opposed to closed-ended. Open-ended questions cannot be answered with a simple “yes” or “no,” and promote a deeper understanding of content knowledge. Students learning to ask better questions may find it useful to begin their questions with phrases such as: “Tell me more about...”, “What would happen if...”, “How would you know if...”, etc. These types of questions are very useful in problem solving, research, and creative thinking. By asking the right types of questions, students will become more independent and confident in their capabilities.
